About a  month ago my brother bought an Ipad, at first I wasn't convinced about it but after using it couple of times (mainly because my brother made me and I was bored at Chillli's waiting for my breakfast) I have to admit it's quite amazing.
The idea of having a digital sketchbook is great. I was even thinking of getting one. But the thing is: It doesn't have pressure sensitivity on the table, you can't use a pen, only your fingers, and besides  there aren't many  programs for drawing (the one I used is sketchbook pro, it's similar to Photoshop).

On the other hand I found out this [link]

ASUS-eee tablet, for artists.

The good thing:   it has pressure sensitivity and you can use pen.

The bad thing: It doesn't have any colors!!

I'm really hoping next generation of tablets from these companies will take it to the next level.

For ASUS ,to use colors on the screen on the tablet and for Apple to put some pressure sensitivity on the tablet. It can be that hard. I'm sure Steve Jobs will be reading this and listen.

MEANWHILE I leave you with 2 sketches I made on Ipad.

Enjoy!

I'd recommend looking up wacom's Cintiq. USB touch-screen tablets, and touch screen monitors. They're not cheap by any means, but they're the best. ([link])

Also, check out the iTable from PQ Labs. It's not exactly in the house-hold cost range (running about $10,000), but it's amazing to see. And they have large USB multi-touch tablets that run around 2-3 grand. I'm considering saving up for one myself... ([link])

As far as PC tablet notebooks, though, I wouldn't bother investing in one. I had an HP myself, and it had a faulty vid-chip. A friend of mine had the Dell version, and the screen stopped working. In both cases, they couldn't be fixed. As far as notebooks go, definitely stick with Mac all the way. Though pricier than PC's, Axiotron's Modbook is well worth the money. ([link])

You'll want to look into the Axiotron Modbook. Pressure sensitivity, pen, and color, all on a restructured Macbook -- and done by a Mac-licensed company, so you get a warranty with it, too. Best package I've seen yet.

I was thinking about getting the HP touchsmart tablet laptop. It has a faked sesnsitivity, a digital pen and it pretty small. Only slightly more expensive then the top of the line ipad. plus you would have a full pc at your disposal to install photoshop or whatever. here's a link [link]

The lack of pressure sensitivity is what made me decide not to invest in an ipad. It isn't really geared up towards artists like apple's other products. Oh well, live and wait but I got to admit, you got some serious finger painting talent there.

Just get a tablet PC. I'm currently writing this was mine and I love it! I treat it like my sketchbook, and I have full pressure sensitivity and color. I have Wacom tech and can even use a Cintiq stylus if I want.
If you do, go Fujitsu . Dell and the other less expensive companies have them but you definitely get what you pay for... they're more susceptible to breakage.

I think they hold back on obvious things like pressure sensitivity so they can make more money; buy this first crappy generation because it's the first of its kind, then also buy the next generation because it has more features than the first. Then realize this second generation is missing some obvious stuff too, and wait around for the third generation. (>_<)

A digi-sketchbook would rock, though. I can't believe it's taken them this long to come up with one. But to really make it sell, they need to find ways for it to be more convenient than paper/pencil portable sketching.

I've got a friend with an ipad and he DOES use a stylus with Sketchbook Pro. The heat from your hand heats up the pen so it takes a minute or two before the stylus really works, but he loves it.
